The best series for learning guitar available, really way beyond anything else out there. They lean toward the jazz player (bebop) but contain sufficient variety to keep anyone well occupied along the road to guitar fluency, covering as they do both applied and theoretical knowledge. I have been referring to them since the 70’s. Practicing never comes to an end and yet these books will not become redundant. I’ve worn out 2 copies of book 1, since I bought my first in the 70’s, and particularly like this latest set as they are oversized compared to what has been issued previously. About 20 years ago there was a spiral bound version but unfortunately that’s long gone, so it might be a good idea to take these to a print shop and get them converted to a spiral binding. Given repeated use they will be more durable than a glue binding and also much easier to handle when opening flat.

I am returning to playing guitar after more than 20 years away from the instrument so I decided to start with some familiar material. Back in the early 1980's I went through all 3 volumes of a Modern Method for Guitar thanks to a great teacher. I wanted to see if the material had been updated and I'm HAPPY to say it has NOT!!! Here are some things to be aware of.1) There is no TAB. All of the books in this series assume at least a basic knowledge of note reading ability. While I have nothing against TAB and use it I personally see this as a good thing. 2) This second volume is not for beginners. It builds on what was learned in the first volume and leads you to what is to come in the third volume. 3) You should find a competent teacher to work through these volumes to help you pace the learning and get you over any rough spots you might come across as your skill set develops. All of the material is well thought out and planned to help you progress at a steady pace. From scales and chord voicings to arpeggios, finger independence and picking studies and more it is all here and waiting to be learned. And although it is not completely necessary I would recommend you have a metronome as you go through the studies. It will help you to develop you time and feel at the same time you are developing and strengthening your overall playing skills.Regardless of the style of music you play, the Modern Method for Guitar series will help you develop the necessary left hand and right hand skills you need to become a very competent guitarist. I highly recommend these books.

This book was recommended for my son by his guitar teacher. We bought it and he used it over the summer to keep his knowledge up to scratch while his his teacher was away for the summer. He found it very useful and easy to follow. He's still using it and we ended up buying the first boom also. I asked him would he recommend it and he said yes. It's easy to follow.

sia il primo che il secondo volume anche a mio giudizio costituiscono uno strumento di studio serio ed esaustivo sia per il neofita che per chi, come me, dopo molti anni vuole "rimettere a posto alcune cose".
