These are almost a necessity to stabilize a 1.5 inch umbrella post. Check the prices on some of the others and these become a deal. Two for the price of some. These are a soft rubber that help to stabilize the umbrella. Here's a tip. I further stabilize the umbrella by tying some fishing line around the rib of the umbrella and pull material back on it. Raise the umbrella, attach a swivel hook to an eye screw on your deck railing, draw the fishing line tight on the hook and tie it off. Do it to a couple of ribs and it prevents the umbrella from twisting in the wind and it is easy to release to lower the umbrella in really strong winds. It works great.

I originally had a plastic ring type umbrella hole ring but it kept popping up out of the hole in the glass. No such issue with this one, it works fine plus the silicone material grips the umbrella pole as well so it’s not loose and there’s no rattling or noise. I’d say this is the best design I’ve ever seen for these.
