The seller claims that these clasps are made of sterling silver and gold plating. I can detect no hallmark on the clasps. The seller is therefore breaking the law.INFORMATION FROM THE ASSAY OFFICES OF GREAT BRITAIN 2022"It is not possible to detect by sight or by touch the platinum, gold, palladium or silver content of an item. It is therefore a legal requirement to hallmark all articles consisting of platinum, gold, palladium or silver (subject to certain exemptions) if they are to be described as such. The main offence under the UK Hallmarking Act 1973 is based on description. It is an offence for any person in the course of trade or business to:• Describe an un-hallmarked article as being wholly or partly made of platinum, gold, palladium or silver.• Supply or offer to supply un-hallmarked articles to which such a description is applied.• The UK’s legal requirement for a hallmark applies to anyone in the course of trade or business with UK consumers and applies equally to e-commerce, distance selling, gallery shops, market stalls and physical retail premises."I often see low cost items described as "sterling silver" or "gold" offered for sale on Amazon. The sellers are BREAKING THE LAW. I am surprised Amazon takes no action to correct this. These clasps look nice, but they are very very tiny. The seller claims, "The double necklace clasp is compatible with most bracelets and necklaces." I think many strings used for bracelets or necklaces would be too large to thread through the eyes in these clasps. They would also be extremely fiddly to open and close. The photos on the ad. show each pair of clasps linked by a ring. These two rings are missing from my order. The clasps came minimally packaged (good!) but well enough protected (also good). You get Free Delivery but not Free Returns, so do think hard and compare with other offers (just scroll down) before buying.
